About
This website is dedicated to the interactive media and programming project Jasima created during my undergraduate senior year at NYU Shanghai.
To explore these questions, we first need a language to evolve. Jasima uses the constructed language called Toki Pona, created by Sonja Lang. Contrary to a natural language like English or Chinese, a constructed language is a language of artificial origin contrived for a specific purpose. Toki Pona is a good starting point for observing evolution because of its simplicity–it is a simple language with a vocabulary of about 120 words and grammatical rules that all fit on a single sheet of A4 paper. Toki Pona is written in both Latin script characters and in its custom writing system that uses logograms, or characters that represent words.
A Few Mahalos
I'd like to thank my advisors Gottfried Haider and Bogna Konior for their support and guidance during the development and creation of this project during my final year of college from 2024 to 2025.
